For the First Time in Israel - A Focus in Philanthropy Study
Graduate studies at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, beginning fall of 2009
The Focus in Philanthropy Study is a concentration within the Schwartz Program in Non-profit Management and Community Organizations, developed in collaboration with Sheatufim-The Israel Center for Civil Society.
Philanthropy is playing an increasingly significant role in promoting science, culture, education, environmental sustainability, human welfare and the struggles against poverty and inequality community life around the globe and in Israel. Trends like decreasing government involvement and increasing free market forces have significantly contributed to the evolution of philanthropy, necessitating the development of professionals to provide the strategic skills required for maximizing the impact of this important sector of civil society. The purpose of this new concentration is to address this need for professionals with the knowledge and skills to function effectively in the increasingly complex world of philanthropy.

The Focus in Philanthropy Study elaborates on the knowledge of civil society, management, budgeting and tri-sector relationships acquired in the Schwartz Program. The students participating in the Focus on Philanthropy will gain further knowledge from courses like: Introduction to Philanthropy in Israel (History, Development, Legislation and Regulation); Managing Philanthropy; Cross-sector Relationships ; Philanthropy in International Perspective; Fundraising and Philanthropy; Marketing and Branding of Projects; and a special research seminar.
